Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best way to frame a calligraphic piece? Framing and hanging calligraphy for lasting enjoyment: If the work is on archival paper, the use of an archival quality mount will ensure the work remains acid free and the paper does not get brown spots over time. It is important to have the glass sitting clear of the surface of the work so that there are no condensation points created which can damage the piece. This is particularly so if there is raised gold on the work. Your framer can insert spacers to ensure the glass sits away from the work if the mount/s chosen don't provide this space, or if there are no mounts included. Hanging the piece away from direct light and heat will also provide longevity.
When is the best time forAtelier to be involved in the design process for my event stationery? At the beginning! This ensures that there is plenty of time to plan and print your stationery to meet your deadlines; and the most appropriate paper for the job is selected and ordered.
Can Atelier print my own design? If you have a design you wish to use can provide a specification sheet on how we can receive and use your art files. Otherwise, for a fee, we can work with you if you have something you would like to replicate and use - provided that you own the copyright or have permission to use the line or art work, and that it is suitable for letterpress printing. Contact us for information and requirements.
Does Atelier provide a calligraphy service for invitations and envelopes I have purchased elsewhere? Yes - provided the paper is suitable for calligraphy. We will require a pdf or similar of your printed stationery if possible to determine the best script to use and thus provide you with a quote. We will also need to know how many are to be completed, in what colour, and whether you wish to use first names only or full names of guests on your stationery. It is best to allow up to three weeks for completion. However, we can often fit in more rushed orders depending on quantity etc.
Does Atelier provide a price list? As each commission is different we do not provide a standard price list, but are happy to discuss your requirements and provide you a personalised quote. Please see the How we work page for more information.
Does Atelier provide samples? We can provide samples of some designs we have produced and of the papers we use. Contact us for samples. |
