Some experimenting on the weekend with business cards – a mix of calligraphy and letterpress. Printed on 600 gsm Lettra cotton paper. Calligraphy in gouache on the front. Back letterpress printed in charcoal.
Hand lettering and embossed letterpress were used to create these concepts for a stationery for a restaurant and their menu cover. In order to create a rustic effect in keeping with the cuisine of the restaurant the hand lettering was left untouched, illustrating feathered outlines and indentations of a steel nibed pen on rough paper.

Black paper is 390 gsm Notturno and the white is Velinsky cream.
Channel 7′s Sunrise program featured the Australian letterpress exhibition on Wednesday 1st June, including demonstration of Heidelberg platen printing.
We are always on the look out for papers -both new and existing to add to our range. Recently we have been looking at papers suitable for books – so lighter weight papers than would be typically used in invitations, business cards and greeting cards.
BFK Rives, Velinksy papers and Magnani book papers and new ranges are three paper ranges that offer a variety of textures, smooth, laid, felt and rough in a variety of colours from the traditional clean and crisp whites and ivories, through to pale greys, subtle sage, pale yellows and cornflour blues.

I am currently enjoying some wonderful books celebrating the type design and calligraphy of Herman Zapf. I chose one of his type faces – Optima – for my business stationery. I love its simplicity, boldness and clean waisted lines. My favourite pieces in the books are those that incorporate elements of type and his calligraphy in beautiful compositions. Letterpress printed on Hahnemuhle paper these pieces have the wonderful texture of paper, the elegance of calligraphy and the beauty of pressed letters.

Our supplier relationship commenced in 2009 as an exhibitor at the premier Sydney event held at the Tea Room – QVB in Sydney, and continues in 2011 with the new offerings in letterpress and calligraphy with letterpress launched in 2010.
